Author: Jyumonji Ao

Illustration: Shirai Eiri

Label: Overlap Bunko

Release Date: 25/03/2016

Volumes: 08~

Abbreviation: Grimgar

The first few pages of this volume show Team Haruhiro finally getting back to Grimgar. They entered a region filled with a dense mist which is around 500~700 km from Altana (according to Haruhiro) which is their main objective. Before getting into the main events of this volume I’ll cover a bit about the history around this place and a bit about the new characters:

This was already mentioned volumes ago but the Clan Day Breakers has the objective of dealing with the revival of the No Life King. It is said that he appearead and his curse created a huge army composed of undead of different races (humans, goblins, orcs, etc.). This army ended up destroying and occuping the territory of the Kingdoms of Nananka and Ishmar. Besides that the Kingdom of Arabakia ended up going south. This happened 150 years ago and there are hints leading to his revival. Meanwhile the other and possibly the real objective of the Day Breakers is to find a way to go back to their original world. Haruhiro’s party is right in the middle of the region occupied by the No Life King years ago. That’s why they are really, really far from Altana.

Another important thing is about the hidden village, a village composed that has six main families. People from this village know this region (Southern Valley, サウザンバレー) as if it’s their own garden. There are three main characters from this village:

  • Arara: She is supposed to turn into the future leader of her family. She fell in love with Tatsuru who got killed by Arnold, a strong undead monster and now seeks revenge.
  • Katsuharu: Arara’s “uncle”. Not related by blood and former member of the Reserve Forces.
  • Setora: Another girl from one of the main families albeit she isn’t in the line of succession because she has 2 (?) older sisters.

More details about them coming later. Now for the group called Forgan (フォルガン). It’s a group formed by different races and the leader is an orc called Jambo. They are strong and feared by the hidden village. Main characters:

  • Jambo: A “small” (~180cm) orc who grew up with a human. His knowledge and personality were molded by this human (no details about him) and that’s why he can talk with humans. Everybody at Forgan respects him.
  • Arnold: Undead with four arms. One of, if not the strongest member of Forgan.
  • Takasagi: Human. Doesn’t have his right arm and his left eye.
  • Onsa: Goblin who can control a lot of animals (Wolves, nyaas, small dragons?).
  • Godo Akasha: A huge orc. Respects and tries to be like Jambo.

Nyaas are well, something like big cats I guess. If Grimgar were written in english then their name would be Meow. They are bigger when compared to the cats we know and are really fast. They can be used to obtain informations (telling the position/place of an enemy for example). They seem to be cute. Mary really liked their appearance.

Now for the party from Day Breakers known as the Typhoon Rocks. They are at this place because of Souma’s orders but are now moving because they are crazy. Their main style is to fight by themselves. The complete opposite of Haruhiro’s party. Members:

  • Rock: Leader of the party. Small, but fast and strong as fuck.
  • Moyugi: Self proclaimed “strongest Dread Knight”. Strategist. Uses the female? demon Moria.
  • Kajita: Warrior. Quiet guy. Big. Strong.
  • Tsuga: Priest.
  • Sakanami: Crazy, really crazy thief.
  • Kurou/Crow: Former hunter. Warrior. But most of the stuff he does is what a hunter does. Seriously.

Going back to Team Haruhiro. After they finally reached Grimgar, Haruhiro and Yume left the party to find some information that could confirm the direction they wanted to take (south).

  • Haruhiro & Yume

We see once more how Yume is really pure or should I say the “iyashi” of the party. Haruhiro starts to “confirm” his suspicions that Ranta has something more for Yume. Then they meet Kurou. As members of the same clan Kurou says that it would be for the best to follow him. It does happen that by following him they end up fighting against some members of Forgan and meeting with Moyugi and Kajita, looking at Sakanami and Tsuga doing some “casual killing” from far away until they met Rock and Arara.

Grimgar8_002Kajita big guy, Kurou at the back and Moyugi glasses guy

By then we have Haruhiro, Yume, Kurou, Rock and Arara at the same place. There they find Arnold and a first battle happens. Arnold ends up “winning”, i.e. Haruhiro and company ran away. Arara got badly hurt. Haruhiro started to consider Moyugi’s advice of always thinking ahead. Also we get to see about the (cliche and boring) subplot related to Arara. The classic story of a boy and a girl falling in love with each other, meeting the contrary opinions of their own families (the ones which lead the village) and the (normal) guy trying to prove his worth by trying to defeat the biggest treat to the village… The undead Arnold. He died and Arara wanted revenge. (from here on it’s not that cliche anymore I guess) She met the Typhoon Rocks and Rock fell in love at first sight so he decided to help her (he doesn’t give a damn about what happens later). The other members are full of themselves or just crazy so their reaction was also positive. It also seemed “fun” to go against one of the strongest member of Forgan.

Grimgar8_003Arara left, Rock right

Anyway, after a break they decided to move on and ended up finding Katsuharu, Kuzaku and Shihoru fighting against members of Forgan. They saved the three of them and Haruhiro saw Ranta at the enemy’s side. Haruhiro (and Shihoru/Kuzaku) asked for Mary. Ranta answered to Haruhiro with something like “if you want my woman back, come and defeat me”. Haruhiro couldn’t believe that Ranta betrayed them.

  • Shihoru & Kuzaku

Some time passed after Haruhiro and Yume went away. Ranta got worried? and so they decided to separate into two pairs. Ranta and Mary went to search for them while Kuzaku and Shihoru stayed waiting for them. Development time: Shihoru gets worried about Kuzaku trying to do “too hard” in order to catch up with the other members of the party. After all Mogzo did too much and that happened. Shihoru and Kuzaku also agreed that Haruhiro was having to do too much on his own. Shihoru started to wonder if she couldn’t do something in order to help him. Guess the last important point is Shihoru’s answer to Kuzaku’s “The women in our party don’t see us guys as possible romantic partners”. Shihoru said that wasn’t true. Hmm… Well, Yume certainly doesn’t see anyone like that because she is really pure. Impossible to confirm anything about Mary so hmm… Kuzaku ended up telling him about his confession to Shihoru and a small flag was triggered between them. Kind of I guess (Shihoru saying Kuzaku looked like a dog, than saying she liked dogs more than cats).

Grimgar8_001Anyway, after some time they were found by Katsuharu. Just like Haruhiro they decided to go with him until they found a place where some kind of battle had taken place. Later they were running away from Nyaas but ended up having to fight against some wolves. In the end they end up meeting with Takasagi and Ranta from Forgan. Ranta and Kuzaku fought a bit and Ranta was serious. If Haruhiro and company didn’t appear Ranta could actually have killed Kuzaku.

  • Ranta & Mary

Ranta being Ranta. Mary being Mary. This actually pretty much summarizes most of what happened. Ranta and Mary were searching for Haruhiro and Yume when suddenly the mist started to dissipate. Then they found some Nyaas (from Forgan most likely) and some time later they were completely surrounded. At this time Ranta got to understand how much Haruhiro was important, i.e. it’s much easier to fight by himself when compared to having to fighting while protecting Mary or thinking about the others. Even so Ranta is still Ranta. When he saw there was no way they could get alive from there he activated his skill “dogeza”. They were captured by the goblin Onsa and taken into the “headquarter” of Forgan.

At this place they first met with the old man Takasagi. He asked if they were members of the village and about how he wouldn’t mind killing Ranta and using Mary for you know what. That kind of typical fantasy nukige development. He only didn’t that because he was waiting for the leader. Obviously Mary got scared and even wanted to die before the worst happened. Ranta still tried to cheer? her up saying he wasn’t giving up no matter what.

Then the charismatic leader Jambo appeared. He was accompanied by the huge orc Godo Akasha. Ranta provoked Takasagi saying that he could defeat everyone here (just like always) and Jambo for some reason accepted his proposal of a duel. So Ranta managed to get free and even got his weapons back. Mary thought that maybe, just maybe Ranta did all of that in order to get a chance to run away. But well, Ranta is Ranta and he really decided to have a fight against Takasagi. The difference in ability was obvious but Ranta didn’t give up. Mary was cheering for him and even if he got defeated she was happy enough to see that he was still trying his best. So happy that she almost felt like crying. Soon after his defeat Ranta used his skill one more time. Dogeza. He also asked to be a disciple of Takasagi. Mary wanted to cry for other reasons. In the end Takasagi said everything was up to Jambo. The leader said he doesn’t like to kill for no reason so he accepted Ranta into Forgan. When asked if Mary wanted to enter Forgan, her answer was negative. A negative answer also meant the worst for her. Before anything more could happen Ranta said that he always wanted to make her his woman so he asked for some time. If she didn’t obey him then he would give up on her. Jambo also accepted this.

  • Night before the last battle (of this volume) – Ranta’s side

Ranta’s last proposal was certainly a lie. We get to see some things about his PoV before and it’s pretty obvious that he knows the position he is in the party. The same for his “weakness” to Yume and not to Mary. At that night the members of Forgan were drinking, talking and having some fun. Goblins, orcs, kobolds, undeads, all at the same place. Ranta saw that from far away. Mary was ignoring him and he didn’t feel like being the usual “idiot” and trying to get into one of those groups. Then he saw Jambo alone… Well, he was actually with Arnold. Ranta asked why Jambo wouldn’t go to the place where the others were. Jambo was respected by everyone else so there was nothing that could go wrong. But Jambo’s answer was a simple one. He just didn’t think he was the type to enjoy things like them. Same for Arnold. Same for Ranta. That’s why they were friends. Jambo and Arnold offered some of their drinks to Ranta and this led to…

(Easily my favorite scene of the volume. Very simple scene but the emotional impact was devastating imo)

  • And then we wait for tomorrow (damn, this subtitle)

At the same time Team Haruhiro, Typhoon Rocks and Arara/Katsuharu reached the hidden village. Arara was going to receive some kind of punishment (by putting the village at danger) but they would only get to know about the details on the next day. Meanwhile Team Haruhiro stayed at Katsuharu’s place and decided to define their new objective. Ranta’s “betrayal” hit them really hard but Ranta’s words indicated that Mary was still alive so it was decided that they would help the Typhoon Rocks (defeat Arnold from Forgan) and in return they would find some way to rescue Mary. Haruhiro still doubted that Ranta would really betray them though. Small thing but Shihoru got more “active” in giving opinions in this “meeting”.

Grimgar8_004The next morning Haruhiro was taken by some members of Typhoon Rocks to meet Setora. Setora can control Nyaas so they asked for her help (she is also a childhood friend of Arara). She declined at first but Haruhiro asked if they couldn’t give her something in return for her help. She does some research about artificial lives so she asked for an eye. “Naturally” Haruhiro accepted this condition for his left eye. In the end Setora decided to get his eye later. Btw, this natural reaction shows once more about Haruhiro’s personality. It may be because he loves Mary as a woman, but more than that I get the feeling he would that for anyone of the party. And it’s not even like having Setora’s help would be a trump card. It would be positive yes, but there was no guarantee for that. He still decided to give up on his eye as if it was the most natural thing to do in order to increase, even if slightly, the chances of success. Seriously Haruhiro, you keep saying the other guys are crazy but you’re not a normal guy either.

Then we go to the climax of this volume. Pretty much a direct confront between the Typhoon Rocks + Arara, Katsuharu + Team Haruhiro against the Forgan. Lots of action, Kajita and Godo Akasha having plenty of fun going against each other, Rocks being pretty damn cool and awesome declaring his will to everyone there. Rocks 1×1 battle with Arnold was being pretty nice too. The conclusion is unknown because Haruhiro used this chance (everyone concentrated on watching that fight) in order to find Mary. Sakanami substituted him (also a disciple of Barbara). When Haruhiro was going out he saw Shihoru waving her right hand as the only other member of the party that actually realized he was leaving. Once more Shihoru showing signs that she is paying more attention to Haruhiro than the others. She is also slowly turning into a “sub-leader”.

Haruhiro managed to find the place where Mary was being held with the help of a Nyaa controlled by Setora. He saved her without making the same mistake as in the volume 7 (to kill or not to kill the “guardian”).

Grimgar8_005Everything was going well until Ranta, Takasagi and a few orcs appeared. Here we have the classic development of Haruhiro fighting Ranta on 1×1. Ranta was serious so Haruhiro had no other choice to fight as trying to kill him. Both knew about each other just too well. The only difference was that Haruhiro surpassed his limits in the last volume (1×1 battle against a stronger opponent) and that was what sealed the deal. When Haruhiro was about to give the last blow, to actually kill Ranta, Mary called his name and Kurou used this chance to cause some confusion.

Then Haruhiro used this chance to run away with Mary. Their destination was the “exit” from the other world, the same place they were one? day ago. That’s how the volume ends. Haruhiro having to accept Ranta’s betrayal… And even if he were to come back, would he be able to form a party with him anymore? After all he really did try to kill Ranta even if there was no other choice.

Grimgar8_006Oh well, wrote a lot more than I wanted to… Anyway, pretty nice volume. Stuff about the No Life King’s revival and a group formed by different races already show a side of Grimgar we didn’t know before. Being able to see other characters’ PoV was great too (mainly Ranta, a bit of Kuzaku and Mary). No matter what, this arc is still not over for a lot of reasons. Jambo still didn’t get some real spotlight, same for Tsuga and Sakanami. It’s still uncertain if Rock really defeated Arnold and if Shihoru, Yume and Kuzaku will be able to reach the “exit” from the other world.

We also have Shihoru’s growth as a character. I’m really looking forward to see how she’ll turn out in the next few volumes. Same for Haruhiro. Not so obvious at first but Haruhiro is trying to change in a good way after his mistake in the last volume. Relying more on other people, be it on battles, be it on making decisions. Also always thinking ahead. Can’t wait to see Moyugi’s “advice” giving some fruits. Haruhiro is also starting to rely on Shihoru a lot more than before so hmm…

There is Haruhiro’s promise in giving his left eye to Setora and obviously Ranta. I really do wonder what he really wants to do right now. His decisions back there certainly saved Mary for the worst. But that scene with Jambo and Arnold may have really changed him. It’s also funny how everyone in the party hates but “loves” him. It’s pretty much the same for everyone and it’s even more of a delicate matter to Haruhiro. Fumu. Maybe Yume will be the key character next volume after the foreshadowing about Ranta’s love? for her. Dunno. All I can say is that the next volume couldn’t come sooner… Damn you Jyumonji and all these cliffhangers.

    Eyy!! Nice summary.

  2. dark1987 says:

    Really Sorry to bother you
I wanted to ask you if there is any developement between HaruxMary
Can I ask you to decribe in more detail what happened in the illustration above between them?
    Thanks in advance.

    • imoutolover says:

There isn’t much to say. Haruhiro found Mary being guarded by someone which resembled a kid, he killed him/her, saved her > image. Bad translation below:

M – “I was treated pretty badly” (supposed to be a joke)
H – “Everything is okay now” (couldn’t take this as a joke at all lol)
      M – “Yes”
H – “I wanted to come sooner though”
M – “You were fast enough. What about the others?”
      H – “Well…”

Then Ranta appeared and shit happened.

  3. kuku malu says:

    Thanks for summary..!! Good Job

  4. goodguy1206 says:

So Ranta loves Yume, and Haru loves Mary? Ranta betrayed the party, why again. Sorry I skipped many volumes to read this. Cause I can’t read japanese. Do you have the summary for other volumes too?

    • goodguy1206 says:

Oh, I’m an idiot, sorry. But why is Ranta the bad guy now? I kinda not get it. he obviously tried to fight and help Mary?

      • imoutolover says:

Answering your questions: Haru’s feelings are pretty much confirmed, as for Ranta is still uncertain.

        Other summaries: https://gensakuchuu.wordpress.com/tag/hai-to-gensou-no-grimgar/

Well, as a reader that knows what’s happening it’s easy to see that he did his best but the other characters don’t know about that at all. Haru still tried to trust him but everything “was over” when Ranta fought him seriously. Ranta doing that also proves that he is with Forgan and not with their party anymore. That’s the truth Haru has to accept, it doesn’t matter what happened before, if what he did was for the sake to save Mary. You know, He could just have appeared alone (at the end) and helped Haru to save Mary for example. But he didn’t. He could fight in a manner that Haru would understand he wasn’t serious, but he didn’t.

      • goodguy1206 says:

Thx! Being the annoying guy is so hard lol

    • Haruki says:

I think mainly cause it was the only way he could save Mary and himself. It’s the only way he knows how to do this stuff. Freaking Ranta ! Why do you keep trying to be cool! But. .. Thx Ranta. Baka.

  5. moneng85 says:

    wow, MINDBLOWN!!!
    arigatou for the summary~

  6. [ACE]Carnage says:

so are you saying Haruhiro will have a Rinnegan in his left eye? LMFAO jk

    • imoutolover says:

Nope. If Haruhiro really loses his eye, then that’s it. He’ll have to live for the rest of his life like this.

      • [ACE]Carnage says:

like you mention above Takasagi don’t have a left eye maybe she will give haruhiro left eye to Takasagi?

      • imoutolover says:

Forgan and the hidden village are enemies so that’s high unlikely. There is also nothing that foreshadowed something between these two characters.

  7. [ACE]Carnage says:

    when is the next volume?

  8. Anonymous says:

    Thanks for the summary
You should re-edit the other summaries and make them as long as this one tbh, they are waaay too short to provide a good picture of the situation/setting etc, This LN deserves it after all.

    • [ACE]Carnage says:

agree! but i think it’s better than zero….

    • imoutolover says:

I could do so only if I had time to reread the first few volumes (don’t remember too much of the important stuff to do proper posts). Translation is going on, LN backlog is huge so I don’t have enough motivation to do that right now. That’s not much but the summaries from now on will be probably as long as the last 2 volumes until Grimgar continues to be really good.

  9. stelvis93 says:

I love you!! Want you married me(if you are a girl)? *Cough~cough* ok jokes a side i really thanks you for fulfill my wish/request, i really don’t think of see this at the least in a month and half(sorry for my bad English), seen your answer.
To me it’s a little sad that shihoru break(probably) the flag with haru-kun but at the least the couple was been fixed.
Really thanks for your summary and reviews^^

  10. [ACE]Carnage says:

Thanks for your TIME, EFFORT, HARDWORK! 😀

  11. After cooled my head for heartbroken for Ranta betrayal i tried to reread the summary and there i found an interesting light in this volume
a certain new character hook my interest which is non other than Jambo the Forgan leader
first things that made me interested with him is Jambo background, you see Jambo share same background with Thrall from WoW both of them grew up with humans.
we know who is Thrall, the once Orcs warchief, a natural leader who lead orc with wisdom and hospitality, respected by foes and allies.
I don’t know why but for some reason i get “Thrall vibe” from Jambo.
perhaps Forgan is not bad group at all, we just don’t know about them yet.
To begin with we never see the direct decision from Jambo about Ranta and Mary fate it was Ranta himself who made fuss to duel blah blah blah and he lose, All Jambo did only accepted Ranta requests.
Notice it Jambo assembled many races under his command he even had an incapable Old man under his ranks. No wonder Ranta want to join Forgan, Jambo charisma maybe astonished Ranta.
if my prediction is right about Jambo character then in no time Ranta will return to Haru party later
possible if Jambo himself will kick out Ranta himself with reason Ranta maybe not belong to the Forgan or later Jambo maybe will die and tell Ranta to return to his party.

    Now, i can’t wait to see vol.9
i want to see more about this Jambo.

    • imoutolover says:

Yeah, Jambo will certainly be a key character next volume. There was almost nothing about him this time. Well, let’s wait and see.

  12. deivisongrmj says:

I don’t get it very well, when you told about your favorite scene…

More details about it, will be good, and thanks for the review.

    • imoutolover says:

The scene itself was short and I just won’t be able to translate it well enough. Anyway, that scene makes sense if you can somehow understand Ranta’s (or Jambo for that matter feelings of looking at other people “from far away”. If you can’t, then there is nothing more I can do. You know, you don’t need a lot of time to get friendly to someone as much as a “simple thing” can easily change the way you see other people. That scene was about this “simple thing” imo.

  13. Aizckrim says:

    > He just didn’t think he was the type to enjoy things like them. Same for Arnold. Same for Ranta. That’s why they were friends. Jambo and Arnold offered some of their drinks to Ranta and this led to…

Hi, can you elaborate on what that event led to? or do you mean, they became friends because of that event (Ranta-Arnold-Jambo)?

    And thank you so much!

  14. replica012 says:

if setora will really take haru’s left eye then maybe haru will get a new eye, something like it have a supernatural powers(lol) so that haru can be really a badass MC in grimgar* (with the help of his new gained left eye he can see the line of light whenever he wants)sigh…..😩

    • imoutolover says:

High unlikely. Grimgar was never about gaining something “from nothing” and never about the main characters being strong or something.

  15. replica says:

if setora will really take haru’s left eye then maybe he could might get a new eye(I hope so) and his new gained eye have a super natural ability that let’s haru see the line of light whenever he wants. (woah!!!! what such a badass MC of grimgar lol)
And I also want Ao jyumonji to start shipping HaruMary, well their ship is already in ANIME but I want to read it in lightnovel.

    • dark1987 says:

Even in Novel there are hints they feels something for each other, (Haru is pretty much confirmed) they are just more subtle.
Maybe we will get something in vol9 considering that they run away togheter without the others at the end of vol8.

      • Balanr says:

YES! YESSS!! Grimgar vol.9 : The elopement of Haru and Mary! XD

  16. blerghers says:

Fun fact: Typhoon Rocks’ Kajita’s character design is based on Akira Ueda, aka “Mafia Kajita”.

imoutolover, thank you SO MUCH for your Grimgar reviews. v8 is seriously godd@mn shocking, and i mean it both ways.
even I was like “WTF?!!” about Ranta’s betrayal, but I guess it -kinda- shows that, deep down, he still didn’t feel like he was part of the team..? he def felt more close with Jambo’s group. being part of Forgan will make him stronger no doubt. Haruhiro won’t take this well for awhile, the others, too, but i’m hoping he’ll respect Ranta’s wishes.
i’m intrigued with Jambo now. guess this’ll grow into a future alliance/understanding with orcs and other species. or maybe not. it was heavily hinted that Haruhiro’s chance meeting with Souma in v4 would change everything; let’s see how all this will intertwine in the upcoming future.

    • imoutolover says:

Yeah, I saw the resemblance lol.

I do think Ranta still felt part of the team. It’s just that short remark about Jambo really hit him hard. Maybe he’s still wondering if he could go back or not but things were happening non-stop and he just had no choice. Pretty hard to say anything conclusive now, best thing is to wait for the next volume.

And yeah, the stuff about the No Life King/undeads should be getting some spotlight not so far away. Considering the bad luck Team Haruhiro has it may happen even sooner than we may expect (like next volume lol).

  17. Gustavo says:

Wait, you read the novel and make this review at the same day of the release?! Did you have life? o.O

    • imoutolover says:

I do, but I also have a lot of “freedom” to do stuff like this from times to times.

      • Gustav says:

        I’m jealous :p
I liked your review, your site is pretty great

      • Haruki says:

Yeah dude. Dedication. U should feel empowered by the fact that you can do this much and all the ppl that benefit from it. Seriously.thanks man. And if its just you having free time and not so much for others sake, well more power to you.

  18. How do think the sales for this volume will go?

    • imoutolover says:

No idea but it should be doing fairly well. Far away from Konosuba though. Jyumonji mentioned Grimgar 8 is selling very well in the kindle (and other digital versions I suppose) but that never gets counted into the Oricon/POS rankings we see every week so welp.

      • Nice to know, hope its selling well in print too.
Konosuba is a fun novel but past the comedy there isn’t much to it.
(but i can understand why its so popular).

  19. zorro22 says:

thank you so much and sorry for my english
I feel after your executive summary (especially the last two volumes) more than friendship between Haru shihoru and their relationship is ambiguous
“We also Shihoru growth as a character” give me more details or an example of conversation with haru i thank you in advance

    • imoutolover says:

Well, this change in Shihoru started and having been growing up during these two volumes so yeah. The scene where she was waving her hand and the fact she is slowly turning into the “sub-leader” are all proof of that. There isn’t one specific scene that stoods out more than the other.

  20. Dayum.. This novel characters’ development are so real…
It’s really bother me(in a good way) that they act that way.
No hero in this story.. kill or be killed, do anything necessary to survive.
    Now a question.
    1. Why did Ranta and Kuzaku fought?
    2. Who else know about Ranta’s betrayal? (especially Yume, does she know?)
    3. In volume 7, you said Haruhiro lost counciousness at the last part of volume, what happen after that?
    4. I got a but confused the way you telling us the story. Do the Haruhiro’s team stay together or separated?
    A. First you said “Haruhiro saw Ranta at the enemy’s side” It indicate that they are not together, but then you said “If Haruhiro and company didn’t appear, Ranta could actually have killed Kuzaku.” it means that they met and finally together, right?
    B. In some line you explain, Haru and Yume, Ranta and Mary, Kuzaku and Shihoru. So they are separated, right? but then when they fought againts Forgan, somehow Shihoru was in the team.
So please tell me about the team.. who is with who?

    • imoutolover says:

      1. Because Ranta was at Forgan’s side. They were being attacked by pure “bad luck”, as being caught in the nyaas network of Forgan.
      2. Everyone.
      3. Not explained at all. Probably nothing important. Mary treated him and they started going to Grimgar again.
      4. It was easier to write the events about each pair all at once instead of going slowly like it was in the novel. It’s just a summary after all.
      A. This meeting was like: Ranta was already at Forgan; Kuzaku and Shihoru were being attacked by Forgan; Haruhiro, Yume and the other members of Typhoon Rocks appeared (after their fight with Arnold).
      B. Simplified timeline: Six of them reach Grimgar > Separate into 3 pairs > Event you commented above (your question A) > probably the scene you’re aksing now/end of the volume.

  21. Hello! A million thanks for the great summary! I really am so grateful, as always! And then… My heart is beating and beating, I can’t wait to know what will happen in the next volume about Ranta. I wonder if there’s a chance to see my dream come true and finally getting something between Yume and him. Aaaargggg, I can’t wait! Many many many thanks with all the heart for the summary! Again, thanks!!

  22. Yay.. YumexRanta .. Thanks for the summary ~ *can’t wait for the next summary*

  23. Ergoran says:

    Thanks for the summary! ^__^
I was wondering if “サウザンバレー” could just mean “Southern Valley”?

  24. Kirigaro says:

What’s the deal With haru’s left eye?

    • imoutolover says:

      … In the post/summary:

“She does some research about artificial lives so she asked for an eye. “Naturally” Haruhiro accepted this condition for his left eye. In the end Setora decided to get his eye later.”

  25. Blacksun95 says:

Ranta’s gone. What will others do about the second tank?

  26. jampoy says:

woah, thank you so much! so the anime covered at least vol 3. again thanks for the hard work. cheers!

  27. leonardo ribeiro portilio says:

    Thank you,
I do not know what it would do without your review .

  28. and Yume??? She likes Haruhiro?

    • imoutolover says:

Only as a friend. She actually said she likes everyone (Ranta not that much because he is mean to her) as friends. She just don’t see the guys in a romantic way.

  29. Unstable says:

Thx for the summary! But can you tell me more about what happened to mary in this volume?

  30. ryuuya says:

Thanks for the detailed summary. What do you mean by they love and hate Ranta? I thought they all said they disliked him in volume 2. He doesn’t seem to have significantly changed. What did Mary think of him when they were together?

    • imoutolover says:

They hate his normal attitude but they know he is essential to their party for a lot of reasons. Something along these lines. There was almost no scenes with Mary’s PoV and the only things I can remember are already in the post, e.g. Ranta being Ranta. Guess the only thing I can add is that she was “jealous” of Ranta because he would just die and not suffer like her if the worst were to happen. Note that this was before he tried to cheer her up or went to fight against Takasagi.

  31. is it true that shihoru starting developing feeling fo haru. i read it on hai no grimgar wikia ?

  32. maximaynard says:

    Thanks for summary ^^
I just watch last episode in anime. It seems anime was shipping Haru and Mary. I wonder if Mary have a feeling with Haru? I read that she jealous when Haru near with Mimori. Can I ask you to describe it ? Sorry to bother you

    • imoutolover says:

Nothing confirmed. Nah, nothing more than a scene like this: Shihoru, Yume and Kuzaku being happy? by Haru getting lucky, Ranta making fun of him and only Mary acting cold to this.

    • Balanar says:

Every Mary x Haru shippers have to wait for the damn vol.9! I believe the “bargaining his eye for the rescue help” plot will help in this matter.

  33. soukaina2411 says:

Hello can i ask you will mary and haru have any development in the future
Im sorry because i ship them i mean i like mary as character so that why i ask a silly question
Sorry to disturb you and thank you 😊

  34. arandomguyXD says:

cant believe a read the full 3rd volume and the summarized version of 4,5,6,7,8 (eyes tired).
thankyou though for the summary 😀

  35. oniisama the "mahesvara" says:

thank for the summary, didnt expect ranta betrayed the party. I still dont understand about ” the ‘exit’ from the other world”, other world means grimgar, isnt it? so they still looking for the “exit” or all of them already found the place?
anyway cant wait for next volume.

  36. trinna says:

I’m kinda confused. Why exactly did Ranta leave Haruhiros party? Sorry if this is a silly question!! Thanks for the summary, you’re the best!

  37. Thank you for this summary. i started reading the LN after watching 2 episodes but he translation is only till vol 3 and is updated once a week, for someone like me who cant wait thats hell. so ur summary is a real life saver so thank you again. and i wanted to ask where can i look for the vol 8 illustrations?

  38. Jon says:

Thank you so much for these summaries! I spent the past hour reading all your summaries. lol

  39. Gallion says:

Its to bad that its confirmed that haru likes mary. I like her alot but Shihoru is still my fav. I guess if she ends up having feelings for haru that would be awesome. Mary is still a good choice to.

  40. Esther says:

    Thanks for your hard work.

  41. Kirigiri30 says:

I wonder when will volume 9 come out

  42. SirHack3r says:

Hey, so I was reading the Wiki after watching Grimgar (which was amazing btw- made me want to read the book, which I will once I finish learning Japanese lol), and I read that “Ranta is fully aware of his actions and purposely made himself hated, so that the rest of the party have something common to unite against.”

I just wanted to know where this occurs and how the conversation goes. I have no idea what volume it is, so I decided to comment here.

  43. Tobi says:

I think the サウザン (sauzan) in サウザンバレー actually means
“thousand”. If it was “southern” it would be more like サザーン(sazaan) if that makes any sense

    • imoutolover says:

Thousand would probably be サウザンド I guess. Well, I’m not translating the series so I’ll just use Southern for now. Guess people understand what I’m meaning with it.

  44. akashiweb says:

One of the best series I read for me at least can t wait for more

  45. Kirigiri30 says:

Hope Its comes out this June or July 2016

  46. Man Going To miss this series for a while since Grimgar The Novel at baka Tsuki is taking on four weeks break

  47. maximaynard says:

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar vol 9 release at August 28, 2016
    (http://blog.over-lap.co.jp/?p=13014)

  48. Pyrus says:

I somewhere hope there will still be a chance for haruXyume boat to sail.

    • I doubt It since there literally no romantic relationship between Haru and Yume sorry to burst your bubbles. But well you can wish for it though still

  49. trinna says:

Just curious, will you be writing a summary of grimgar lvl 9 ?
